The numbers of people experiencing homelessness grew significantly across Melbourne's north and west in the five years between the 2011 Census and 2016 Census. Results from the 2021 Census are due in late 2022.

In growth corridor areas such as Hume and Whittlesea, homelessness has increased by nearly 40%.
